From next sunday February 26, de GAMEFABRIEK will have its first seasons episode broadcasted. A new initiative from the DIGITALEMEDIAFABRIEK in coop with a lot of dutch gamedevelopers and institutes. They share their creative thoughts on curent hot developments in the gameindustry and do their best to inaugrate everyone into the exiting world of games.

ROOM32 Musicvideo Work in Progress

It has been a while ( Working at de DigitaleMediaFabriek is a creative full time job ). As a side project I’ve been working on ideas for a Music video for ROOM32 for their song “Blueprints”.
The story kicks of with the close up of a machine that creates different pieces of junk from the ingredients you pour in. The different stages of the machine symbolize a building process. What is it creating?

VRAY studio setup

Working on a virtual studio template. This setup has 2 render presets using a three light setup. One preset for quick preview renders, which speeds up rendering time and one for the final rendering which could take up all night. The preview preset uses little subdivs with the irradiance map default preset on low.
I used some old props to check for burnouts, but even with the preview settings enabled it already looks balanced. I used the blur tool on the truss parts to create some depth, but no further editing has been done on the render. Next up is to make some additional studio props and work on the shaders.
Warner Bros. Game Campaign – Lord of the Rings

Green Screen Studio Template v0.1

working on a studio template for green screen recording purposes. Current image is rendered with mental ray without any settings tinkering. When I have more time, this week, I will focus on daylight interior lightning, (mental ray) materials, render settings and I will add video as a background. Current background image is a plane with a skyline texture (instead of an environment map).

Batman Arkham City Challenge – Warner Bros.

The last three months we have been working on the “Batman Arkham City Challenge pre-launch mobile ARG campaign” for Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment ( you still there ; ).
4000 gamers have experienced a unique game, playing both online and in the real world.
We created a series of riddle trails during the online part of the game in which gamers of the Benelux had to cooperate in order to solve them. They collected parts of a QR-code which they had to scan to be able to register for the Live Finale of the Challenge. 100 finalists were chosen to travel to a secret location somewhere in Amsterdam where they attended a live show never seen before, including free drinks and pizza, a hands on with the Arkham City game, spectacular prizes, batman goodies and off course the appearance of the riddler himself.

Another fictional ad for the Space Photography Agency ‘Black Whole’. I got the glass crack from cgtextures, but all the rest is from scratch without using or looking at any reference. I had a hard time figuring out the right blending modes for the space layers in order to get the right lightning effects. I’ve done some abduzeedo layer blending tuts in the past but experimenting with the layers is the only way to discover new cool graphic effects. For now, I have a high res & detailed PSD which I will share with the world to see what unorthodox methods I have used to build both the right and left side.

Another [Project in a Day] project in early April. The goal was to think of an awkward Märklin add. (Märklin is a german miniature train brand). I had to finish the final result within 8 hours (PIAD rules). This means, a lot of details was left out and no textures were used. Oh well, this is a fine level of detail for what is ment to be a miniature. Drop me a line if you want me to upload the original 3ds max file and / or PSD.

Augmented Reality Game for Iphone – Blitz

I’m working on a concept for an AR game. It will be a mixture of scorched Vs tower defense. You can play the game through your mobile phone in any environment possible. Including: Ultimate Upgrades, Multiplayer Madness, Dazzling Defenses and a lot of fun. I will soon release the gameplay details. For now, only a sneak preview.
